With Matt Walker
Sometimes we dream of quitting our job and hitting the road, but then we look around at our responsibilities, which cannot be so easily abandoned. Learn how to bring a sense of adventure into your everyday life with Matt Walker, author of “Adventure In Everything.”
Matt is an internationally experienced mountain guide who holds a master’s degree in applied behavioral science. Walker begins the four-day retreat with an interactive lecture on the five elements of adventure — high endeavor, total commitment, uncertain outcome, tolerance for adversity, and companionship.
During this workshop you design your own adventure. You will shift from a ‘doing’ and ‘problem solving’ position to learn how to embrace a perspective of ‘being’ and adventure. You work with Matt and other group participants to create a plan of action that embodies your personal values and honors your strengths.
Mix, mingle, and relax with an appetizer and beverage of choice and meet your fellow “adventurers”. Matthew will share a multi-media introduction to the Five Elements of Adventure, sharing stories, images, and video from adventures that span the globe. We will shift over to a shared dinner to discuss the weekend, learn more about each other, and toast to “adventure in everything”.
Friday - High Endeavor
High Endeavor, Uncertain Outcome, Total Commitment, Tolerance for Adversity, and Great Companionship: The Five Elements of Adventure. Adventure begins with your high endeavor; a personal and intentional choice. Work with Matthew during the morning session and take the opportunity to set your high endeavor, work through challenges associated, and gain the utmost clarity and specificity.
Join Matthew in the afternoon for individual *private consults to refine and set specific and attainable goals to integrate your high endeavors into your personal and professional life.
- Mindfulness and Movement
We’ll greet the early morning, take advantage of the cooler time of day and head out into the mountains. Together we’ll integrate the learning and connect mindfulness and movement. Our day will begin with a hike in the mountains and we will practice connecting the Five Elements of Adventure to the present via a series of outdoor activities. Our afternoon is spent in reflection, *private consults, and rejuvenation.
- Design your Adventure
After a relaxing morning and breakfast we will meet to put your “adventure” together. The design your own adventure workshop is a series of exercises and activities to create your specific plan of action and methodology to infuse adventure in your personal and professional life. This is where we put the tools to work and create your adventure: your way.
The afternoon is spent in further reflection and relaxation (taking full advantage of the amenities on-site!). We conclude the workshop with a closing session and celebratory dinner-one step closer to integrating adventure in everything!
